Irish Lurcher 1,013
Reason I ask this question is because my pup is a flying machine. I was out other nite with both dogs, now my bitch is not slow by any standards, quick to say the least. But when I was doing a spot of light training with them the pup was out running her every time. How fast can a lurcher run? has this been ever clocked?, and what would be classed as a fast time say over 100 meters for a lurcher? Quote Link to post
scottish lurcher 185
racing greyhound will do 45mph thats on flat ground and only take about six strides to reach it top speed brown hares run between 45 - 50 mph or so iam told so i would reackon a lurcher should be about the same maybe a bit quicker depends the breed dont no if there if some one has timed a lurcher over a 100 meter dash good luck with pup sure others will add to this Quote Link to post

Guest Frank
The greyhound, is the fastest dog in the world. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest Lurcherbitch
I dont know just asking, But dont they time the lurcher races at the shows?? Quote Link to post
luke 2
if a hare could run faster than a lurcher it would just straight line them every time the dog has to be faster than the hare and a shite greyhound would out pace any lurcher Quote Link to post
swamper 11
so what would be the fastest X then??? Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
so what would be the fastest X then??? I would favour a gurt great big, feck off BWRA style race Whippet..... Or,...a specialist 'sprint Greyhound'.... But only over a measured distance,...and this factor has little to do with the work of a LURCHER..... Nice to see though.... Cheers,.CHALKWARREN......... snoopdog 1,256
i would like to see a hare run fifty mph it must have had a rocket up its ass ... Quote Link to post
leec 132
little bit off topic but i have clocked hares doing 50 plus mph whilst beside them in a suburu Quote Link to post
olly 0
I reckon a Grey X whippet would make the fastest Lurchers over 100 m Add a bit of Collie/Saluki/Bull and they will start to slow down Over 1 km a Saluki X would beat a pure Grey though Quote Link to post

luke 2
if a hare can hit fifty a greyhound must be hitting sixty when you see how quick it closes on hare given a hundred yards law  Quote Link to post
